SCHOOL FOR ADVANCED STUDIES

Castle Heights is designated as a School for Advanced Studies (SAS). All of our teachers have had the 16 hours of additional training and professional development yearly required to meet the needs of Gifted and High Achieving students. The SAS program is not run separately from the school as a whole, but rather it is integrated into the work done in every classroom, so that every child benefits from a more challenging learning experience. Children who have been designated as academically gifted are motivated to work to their potential through work that is infused with Depth and Complexity.

REFLECTIONS

Many Castle Heights students participate in the national PTA’s Reflections Art Contest, and we are proud that so many have won top honors!

A CALIFORNIA DISTINGUISHED SCHOOL

Castle Heights is proud to have been recognized as a California Distinguished School, an award given by the California State Board of Education to public schools that best represent exemplary and quality educational programs. Approximately five percent of California schools are awarded this honor each year.

COTSEN FELLOWSHIP

We are proud to have been selected as a Cotsen Fellowship school.  The Cotsen Foundation for the Art of Teaching transforms good teachers into great teachers by providing coaching and opportunities to attend high quality professional development to participating Fellows in their selected area of study. Congratulations to Ms. Xochitl Becerra, Mentor, Ms. Miriam Cano (Writing), Ms. Sara LaBelle (Writing), Ms. Crystal Skalack (Science), Ms. Mirna Hochberg (Writing), Ms. Corina Quezada (Writing), Ms. Ginna Ross (Writing) and Ms. Monique Lozano (Writing).

CAHN DISTINGUISHED PRINCIPAL FELLOWSHIP

Our Principal, Dr. Linda Beck, participated in the Cahn Distinguished Principal Fellowship during the 2023-2024 academic year, one of 74 principals selected from across the nation.  The Cahn program "provides advanced leadership development and recognition in large metropolitan areas to strong, talented school leaders to improve public education."  We are one of only two schools in the District to have participated in both the Cahn and Cotsen programs, a tribute to the quality of our professional staff.
